front doors

lewis is looking for lots of glass on his front door. his house has really small windows and he is craving the light that a big glass pane will bring to the room.

of course, design*sponge must be reading my mind and posted tons of doors today, and lots of them are just what he had in mind. something like this:

what do you think? i love the bright color these yellow ones are painted. and although he'll only have a single door, i think idea of glass could be growing on me...

what a difference a year makes.

happy friday.... and a special happy 1st birthday friday to this little man. ( you can read his mom's blog and see all the stuff she was planning for his big day!)...seems like just yesterday that i was visiting them in the hospital and celebrating his arrival!

webb had a tough start to life last june, and it so wonderful to see how healthy he is now...we said a lot of prayers for this little guy, and for his family! and as a friend, it has been fun to watch lauren grow as she started the journey of motherhood...

( lauren i snagged this photo off your facebook...)

what are your weekend plans? my friend emily is coming to town tonight and over lunch i heard a long list of chores to be done on the house as well...

whatever your weekends bring.... i hope it is a great one!

a new project...

so notice that cute bike that popped up on my sidebar? my mom and i have a new project in the works, called rambling road interiors. right now it is just an antique booth in the tin pan alley antique in taylor, mississippi... we put our first batch of stuff in yesterday, with lots more to come!

a few years back i wrote an article for delta magazine about taylor, that featured tin pan alley and some other small town treasures. you can check it out here.

check out our site/ blog when you get a chance, we'll share stuff from the shop but also some design and decor finds that we love too!

lonny makes me miss domino

this article in the new york times reminded me how great lonny (the online decor magazine) is.... but at the same time, there is a part of me that feels like there is nothing like having in print... even though the images and content are certainly just as great... i just miss magazines! and i especially miss the day they arrived in the mail box!

am i old school? or do you agree?

girl crush.

this past weekend i helped out with a music fundraiser for the oxford medical ministries clinic, that featured memphis musician valerie june. besides thinking she had the most rocking hair, her music was pretty good too! she has this surprising mix of soulfulness with folk style music blended with the blues! she calls it "organic moonshine roots music"... i'm just regretting that i didn't get her latest cd at the show, which she recorded with the guys from old crow medicine show...

s'mores

if i were throwing an outdoor party this fall, i would want to have s'mores like these folks had at their campground inspired wedding. see more here.

thanks to msks for sharing.

making progress

it's been a while i since i updated on lew's home project ( project is probably an understatement!). there has been lots more demo since that first post back in march... but this weekend thing started getting put back together! which required these guys to do some heavy lifting...

the end result is that wall between den and kitchen is officially down, and the new beam is in place.

ps. please excuse the camera phone pictures, it was all i had with me.

very crowded

a few weeks ago mary straton and i were in orlando for work. one of the best parts of work trips are the fun things cities like orlando plan for attendees at big conferences like ours. this particular time we got a sneak peak at the new wizarding world of harry potter at universal.

this picture of all the people lined up to see it on opening day, makes me feel very VIP that i got to see it with just a few thousand others. ( they didn't allow us to take photos, but trust me, it was really cool...and i'm not much of a theme park gal) mary straton did blog a little about it here.

would you wait in line like this for anything?

berry berry good.

this weekend my friends chris and kristen hill came down from memphis for a wedding and spent the night with me! i met kristen when i was in high school, and have known chris since i was in middle school. it was so fun when they met, fell and love and got married. i like to claim some hand in their love story....

having them in oxford was so much fun. there is nothing sweeter than spending time with friends you've not seen in a while, but feeling like no time has passed at all as you visit.

(a cute little gracie hill, and the blueberries, via the hills blog)

but speaking of sweet, in a more literal sense, they brought along some blueberries that are the sweetest i've ever had. they took their children to nesbit blueberry farm saturday before heading down to oxford and i got to enjoy some of their loot!

i can't even describe to you how delicious these berries are! almost as sweet as seeing good friends for the first time in a long while!

ps. if you live near memphis/ mississippi you should take your kiddos-- don't ask me though, read all about it at the hill family blog.

perhaps the hot, thick, humid air has me wishing for a cool breeze.... and if we had one, these wind chimes would be fun to have blowing in the wind.

p.s. mississippi gals out there, aren't these very similar to the mccarty ones, but dipped in color?

a happy camper?

my friend kelley's little boy was at overnight camp for the first time last week. this is what he sent home to his anxious parents...

sorry for the small pictures.... in case you don't have your glasses on it says
" i'm having a way funner time." no time to even sign it. pretty adorable huh?

hope you are having "a way funner time" this weekend.

bright lights, big city.

as you may remember, last week i was in the big apple for the new york-mississippi picnic. this was my 6th picnic to attend, and as usual it was steamy and hot, almost as if we brought the mississippi weather with us.

several other "tourism friends" were there as well....

our oxford fans were a huge hit in the hot weather!

the highlight of the day was bumping into my high school drama teacher, jenny madden. She was in nyc for her play, "sister myotis bible camp" and was at the picnic, along with several castmates (in their costumes!)

here is hoping you have a great weekend, hopefully i'll have more to share next week!

we went fishing...

hello readers, did you have a good memorial day weekend? i seem to always find myself wishing for another day off after a long weekend. we had what i would classify a "very mississippi memorial day weekend.... more to come on that ( when i get my camera working)....

this was the biggest catch of the day....(if you look at matthew's blog you can see the lewis learned how to pose with fish from a professional)

more to come! happy wednesday....
